BIBSYSx in PubMed
The National Library of Medicine (NLM) now provides BIBSYSx as a link from their database PubMed to the BIBSYS Library Database. This means that you will see the BIBSYSx button when records are displayed in the Abstract or Citation format in PubMed.
The function is activated by search in PubMed from this address:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?otool=bibsys
BIBSYSx accesses the following services:
- Full text
- Ordering copies
- Holdings information
When you use the BIBSYSx link, the article information from PubMed is transferred to the copy order form. All you have to do is provide your Patron ID and name.
When you search from a computer connected to the computer network of a specific institution, BIBSYSx will be able to identify you as a user of that institution. This is how the system knows which library you belong to, and consequently enables you access to the full-text resources your library subscribes to.
In addition to the order function, localisation, and links to full-text resources, we also offer you access to other services, such as links to online bookshops and content (provided this kind of information exists).
Why is a specific link to PubMed used?
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?otool=bibsys
The reason you have to use this specific link is that PubMed sets cookies from the individual user’s computer in order to remember whether to include a BIBSYSx button or not. If you go to PubMed using other links (e.g. www.pubmed.com), the BIBSYSx button will not be displayed due to the cookie setting. If you have entered PubMed via other links, and the BIBSYSx button is being displayed despite of this, this will be due to other people having used that computer earlier, linking correctly to PubMed. To ensure that BIBSYS x is always available via PubMed you should use the customised link.
