Main purpose for BIBSYS

  • Organise large amounts of information in a way that is practical and appropriate
  • Ensure access to quality-ensured information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Provide both paper and electronic resources
  • Ensure financial health

Target groups:

  • Institutions and libraries as participants in developing competence and disseminating knowledge
  • Member institutions in their process of organising knowledge and developing collections
  • All others who seek information in their knowledge development process

Main objectives:

BIBSYS - the road to information
BIBSYS will maintain its role as the natural first choice when the target groups seek information and knowledge.

BIBSYS - a service centre for the library
The member institutions will continue to regard BIBSYS as an efficient quality tool for organising knowledge and to assist the libraries in their task of providing their users with information resources.

BIBSYS - efficient cooperation
BIBSYS will remain dedicated to the maximisation of collective resources in BIBSYS in a way that is both financially sound and that contributes to society.

BIBSYS - collaborative library development
BIBSYS has and will continue to have a sound financial foundation for maintenance and development of its systems and services.

To achieve the main objectives, BIBSYS will emphasise:

User friendliness
Self-explanatory interface and search system with excellent ergonomics and support service that allow access to high-quality information resources

Accessibility
Reliable access to a high system-quality, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and with a response time that will satisfy our users

Quality content
BIBSYS provides access to quality databases with the breadth and depth users expect. We aim to facilitate easy acess to fulltext documents.

Ideal use of resources
BIBSYS is committed to the recycling of data, to communication and integration with other systems and to the use of open standards.

Cooperation
BIBSYS seeks cooperation and enters into agreement with relevant partners.

Professional organisation
BIBSYS emphasises a flexible organisation that develops and stays connected with the demands of our time.

Competence development in the workplace
We at BIBSYS take competence development and high professional level among staff seriously, enabling innovations.

Innovation
BIBSYS emphasises innovation in order to offer member institutions competetive and effective services. BIBSYS develops services for new user groups, an activity that will also provide a broader financial foundation.

Sound financial management
Operation and development of shared services are funded by the membership fee. Operation and development of services relating to one or more specific member institutions may be arranged and funded separately.
